On the other hand there are some pollutants which do not dissolve in water. This material is called particulate matter and can create water pollution. Toxic chemicals suspended in water can be harmful to the development and survival of water life as well as can create diseases in humans too. Sewage disposal is a major problem in developing countries as many people in these areas don’t have access to sanitary conditions and clean water. And this leads to a major water contamination. Cholera is one of the major and acute waterborne disease. The cause of Cholera is the infection of the intestine. It can happen if you drink water that is contaminated by the cholera bacteria. One of the most feared diseases Hepatitis is also a waterborne disease. Hepatitis A and E can be transmitted through water. The symptoms of these two kinds of Hepatitis are an abrupt fever, weakness, nausea, loss of appetite and abdominal pain or discomfort. If these symptoms are followed by jaundice it sure can be Hepatitis. The treatment of this waterborne disease is strictly on prescription. The symptoms should be discussed with the doctor on urgent basis followed by immediate treatment.
Water Related Disease
Another of the main water-related disease is Malaria. Malaria is a parasitic disease and it does not happen by the consumption of the untreated water but sure enough that the female mosquitoes, those give this infection, breed on the water. Dengue is one severe kind of Malaria that has hit Pakistan, lately, very badly in 2011. The symptoms of Malaria are fever and chill that comes and goes every couple of days. If the treatment does not start, or continues, at the right time, or for the right duration, it can affect the liver and if it continues for longer period of time it can even affect the nervous system.
Its symptoms are at the onset of malaria, bouts of chills (ague) and fever lasting several hours and occurring every three or four days. If the disease is not treated, the spleen and the liver become enlarged, anemia develops, and jaundice appears. General debility, anemia, or clogging of the vessels of cerebral tissues by affected red blood cells can be followed by death.
By water conservation we mean beneficial reduction in water loss by water efficiency measures. There are few steps you can take in your house hold also and make your contribution in conserving the water. For example while you do dishes at home don’t let the water run while rinsing. Using sprinklers to water your garden not the pipes; it will help you save on water. Run your washing machine for clothes and dishes, both, only when they are full. This way you will not only save water but also electricity. You can make another small shift in your routine and save noticeable volume of water. When you wash vegetables or fruits do not waste the water; you can use this water for your plants to treat them.
Water Conservation goals
By conserving water you can make sure that you leave sufficient supply of water for the generations to come. The water level in many of the areas around the globe has gone too down to fear of having deserts in place of fertile lands. Usually the water pumping and waste-water treatment operating systems run on some other kind of energy, e.g. electricity, that makes them consume much of, in many cases over 15% of, country’s electricity. So conservation of water in other words helps conserve energy too. This way you can help reduce the need of building new dams either. Solutions to the Global Water Crisis
There still are solutions to the manage the water crisis. Better public and community control of water utilities can really help control the wastage of water thus help an important input in solving the global water crisis. Repairing old water systems can make a good contribution in lessening the wastage of drinking or clean water; lesser the wastage more the conserved water for future.Agriculture needs lots of water for the crops. Many times the water gets wasted rather than used in the agricultural lands. So using less water for agriculture by using drip irrigation can save a lot of water. Governments need to take serious steps in this regard to not only educate the farmers against the loss of water and the means to avoid it. Water pollution is a major factor is wasting the water that can be utilized otherwise. People need to be educated on the dangers the water pollution.
Lester Brown says to create the needed changes, we must eliminate subsidies that create artificially low prices of water, and raise water prices to the point where they will reduce pumping to a sustainable level. Low-income urban consumers can be protected with “lifeline rates” that provide for basic needs at an affordable price. The second required change, Brown says, is to stabilize population, especially in water-short countries. Most of the (at least) 3 billion people to be added worldwide by mid-century, will be born in countries already experiencing water shortages. Without these changes, he says, “there may not be a humane solution to the emerging world water shortage.”
Governments, lately have been trying to a lot in order to reduce the wastage of water and save it for the future generations as experts wonder if the future generation would might wage wars on water issue.
